When You Should Consider Getting Safety Eye Glasses

    Last updated 1 year ago

Maintaining the health and safety of your eyes is essential to promoting your overall health and wellness. While some individuals are genetically predisposed to developing certain eye conditions, the things you do on a daily basis can increase your risk of eye injury. Continue reading to learn when you should consider investing in safety eyewear.

    Hazardous Work Conditions

Construction workers and engineers are exposed to a number of workplace hazards on a daily basis that can lead to a number of potential eye injuries. In fact, studies show that approximately 200 Canadians experience work-related eye injuries every day—some of which may cause permanent vision loss. Consider wearing safety glasses if your profession requires:

    • Hammering, grinding, sanding, or masonry work that may product particles.
    • Handling dangerous chemicals.
    • Working with wet or powdered cement.
    • Welding or exposure to intense UV radiation.
    • Dangerous hand tools.
    • Working in dusty or windy environments.

    Sports and Recreational Activities

Children, teens, and adults who participate in physical sports and other recreational activities can all benefit from safety glasses, regardless of whether or not they require prescription eyeglasses for everyday tasks. Examples of sports activities that can lead to moderate-to-severe eye injuries include basketball, soccer, field hockey, baseball, racquetball, boxing, martial arts, tennis, volleyball, football, golf, and wrestling.

Here at Hakim Optical, we offer a number of prescription and non-prescription safety glasses including basic safety frames, classic plastic frames with regular hinges, and fashionable metal frames with regular hinges. With more than 100 retail locations and Canada’s best selection of safety frames and lenses, Hakim Optical is your No. 1 resource for all of your eyewear needs. Your Eyesight FAQs: Answered

    Last updated 1 year ago

It is recommended that healthy adults have their vision checked at least once every two years. One of the biggest advantages of having your eyes checked on a regular basis is that it gives you the opportunity to ask questions. While your optometrist can provide insight regarding a number of eye conditions, here are the answers to some questions you may have about your eyesight.

    What is “Perfect” Vision?

“Perfect” vision refers to 20/20 vision, or visual acuity in which you can see images clearly at 20 feet away that should be seen at that specific distance. Individuals with 20/40 vision, on the other hand, can see objects clearly at 20 feet away that other individuals can see clearly at 40 feet.

If I Wear Glasses, Will My Children Also Require Prescription Lenses?

Genetics do play a role in visual sharpness and capabilities—however, parents who wear glasses do not always have children with the same needs. Other factors may increase your child’s need for prescription lenses or glasses, including their participation in sports activities and taking medications for certain illnesses, allergies, asthma, or depression.

Can I Use Eye-Drops If I Wear Contact Lenses?

Individuals who wear prescription contact lenses can still use eye-drops for allergies or dry eye syndrome as long as the eye-drops are made specifically for contact wearers and do not contain chemicals that can damage the lenses.

Do I Need to Remove My Contact Lenses When Showering?

You can wear your contact lenses in the shower as long as you take certain precautions, such as avoiding looking directly into the water stream and immediately taking out your contacts if you get shampoo in your eyes. However, it is important to wear protective goggles if you wear contact lenses while swimming in order to prevent chlorine contamination.

You can get the answers to the rest of your questions by contacting a qualified optometrist. With more than 40 years of experience, Hakim Optical is devoted to providing the best eye-care services for your specific needs.
